Book Review: Living and Leading in Ministry by J. Mark Jordan

Recently borrowed this book from a friend. I had the second volume in my collection of books that I bought and never read.  However, I wanted to read volume 1 before reading volume 2.

This is a very short book and can be read in one setting.  It has 118 pages in the book, however it is one of those book that has a lot of half pages ad several chapters have blank pages in between them.  This made the book actually about 60 some full pages when added up.  It could be easily read in just a little over 2 hours by the average reader.

There were several good things in this book about personal living while living a life as a leader.  Granted the author is writing to the ministry, but the principles can be easily used in a christian business man or woman's life.  Pastor Jordan in his short 31 chapters shared examples of things he or other have faced while working in ministry, business, or as part of a team.  Pastor Jordan draws on a life time of experiences from many aspects of ministry and leadership.  Jordan is very transparent throughout his book sharing good things and not so good things that he has experienced in his ministry and leadership career.  He offered up illustrations in topics such as; asking forgiveness, allowing questions, doing your homework, and the honoring of former leaders.  This is a great leadership book.  If one desired they could take a month (with 31 days) and meditate on a chapter per day and really absorb what the writer really wanted to plant into his readers.  I would recommend this book.  I am probably going to order the book for my personal library and may add this book to a must read for the Apostles in Ministry Program (Leadership Training Program) in our local church.  It is an easy and quick read to all those who are interested in living a godly life as a leader of God.

Humbly submitted,
Pastor Troy G. Reynolds
