Book Review: Thus Saith The Lord by John Bevere

From the Author of The Bait of Satan and The Fear of The Lord comes the book, Thus Saith The Lord.  John Bevere tackles a topic than many are not willing to tread.  The topic of false prophesy is something that few write about and few even talk about it.

He begins with the necessity of the prophecy in the church today.  There has been so much false prophesy in the church that the church has been Leary even of the true prophetic.  However, many churches are embracing the wave of prophecy that appeals to the flesh nature of man.  Bevere writes, "We have been so afraid of despising prophecy that we have neglected judging it."  The bible teaches us that we should try the spirits.

There is a widespread deception in the midst of the current prophecy ministries.  Bevere writes, "Teaching establishes us, but warning protects us."  It is important to receive true prophecies, but also to receive the warning that their are many false prophets among us.  There are two sources of deception; False Christs and False Prophets.

The more readily we recognize the real, the less vulnerable we are to the false, according to Bevere.  He defines what a real prophetic ministry should be according the the scriptures in chapter 3.  The problem is that in the time we live in that, "Telling people what they want to hear at the expense of what they need to hear weakens the church," according to Bevere.  The real prophetic turns a person toward God instead of the person's own desires.  Bevere writes, "The true prophetic word of God will build and strengthen us to stand against the storms of life.  Counterfeit or soulish prophetic teaching or prophesying builds lives also, but it builds them on an unsure foundation.

Bevere discusses, "To become familiar with authentic personal prophecy we need to return to the Scriptures for insight."  If it goes against the word of God it is not of God, it doesn't make a difference how accurate some details are.  Many are being defiled from prophetic words that are not from God.  Bevere tells countless stories of individual whose lives are destroyed by false prophetic words, and personal prophecies.  According to Bevere, "False prophecy defiles people, and this defilement makes them barren and useless.

He write, "It takes spiritual fortitude to reject what would bring happiness in order to embrace what is difficult."  We need to know the word of God not the desire of our flesh.  False prophecies teach people to enter into rebellion.  Our attitudes will keep us from being misled or cause us to go head long into it.  We must not tolerate what is not ordained of God.  If you have God given authority you do not have to usurp authority through deception.  Look for the peace of God in the words spoken over your life.  We must watch out for wolves in sheep's clothing.  We have traded true prophets that would not even receive meat and drink from those they prophesied to, toward a time that we ask for people to send us $1,000 for a personal prophetic word.  If you will fall in love with the Truth of God's word you will sharpen your discernment and keep you error free.  Bevere writes that, "the witness of peace is the umpire or decision maker when we are given prophetic words."

This book is not designed to get people to doubt the voices of God in our lives, but for us to test them and let the spirit confirm them to us, not the desires of our hearts.  Most prophecies are prophecies are prophecies of warning.  We have turned them into fortune telling sessions.  This book is required reading for the Purpose Institute Classes.  I would recommend it to my readers today.  There are others books that have been written by this author and I plan on reading them also and reviewing them for you.  God bless you all.

Humbly Submitted,
Pastor Reynolds
