Disciples Indeed

I dedicate this post to great friends and fellow disciples... Michael & Jill Flemming.

John 8:31 - Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.

As I have reflected on and off through the night on a message that I taught to our local assembly, I realize that it is truly an honor to be called a disciple of Jesus Christ. Many people take the thought of being taught by someone as a challenge of their knowledge or their status in live. However, we all have room to learn and no better teacher to learn from is the Lord Jesus Christ. I feel that we will learn at the feet of one of two masters. I choose to learn at the feet of the one who created all things, knows all things, and heals all things. As I go through and watch dear friends of mine go through things in our lives and ministries, I can't help but to watch the Master teach each of us lessons. Some lessons are easily learned and others take a remedial course to get us up to speed. As I talked to a dear friend last night who was struggling with an issue dear to his heart, he made the statement, "I wish God would sent the answers via Fed Ex." I agreed that we all know after the lesson has been taught and we have been graded on our response we then know the answers. As they say, "Hind sight is 20/20." I too wish the Lord would send the Hind Sight before the test or trial.

However, as in school we learned the lessons and took the test and it wasn't until after the red pen went to the paper did we know whether we had the right answers or not. We do not know until afterwards if we passed the test of not, but the joys of learning at Jesus feet are some of the most rewarding times of my life. I have learned a lot of lessons this last year. I have had to humble myself and be taught of the Lord, but they have been wonderful lesson. Even though some where hard lessons to learn, I am thankful that I didn't try to test out of the lessons and not experience the instruction given to me by the Lord in the time of testing.

Luke 14:26-27 – teaches us that we are to hate our own lives to be his disciple. That means If I really going to learn at the feet of Jesus, then I must deny myself and put learning first. Many have missed the lessons of life from the Lord because we know it all. I have met people who seem to know it all. No matter what subject you bring up, they have been there done that and many times are an expert in the matter. Although, I have learned a lot from the Lord, I never want to be a know it all that I can't learn from the Lord.

Recently, I was laid off from a job and then asked this last week to take a part-time seasonal position with that same company. At first the thought seemed almost too much to swallow, but I accepted so that I can see what God is going to teach me in this situation. I am apprehensive yes, but excited also to see what the lesson to be learned not only in my life, but in the lives of those who learn from my life. If you truly want to be a student of the cross it will sometimes take making the hard choices. As I ministered to our assembly there are even times that you will have to choose Christ over family and friends. I pray today that you desire to be a follower and student of Jesus Christ.

May God Bless and Keep You,

Pastor Troy G. Reynolds
