Genesis 4 & 5 gives a run down of the linage of Adam and Eve. In this write-up we find two individuals who couldn't be any different than on another. Lamech & Enoch.
Lamech was a decedent of Cain. There is not a lot said about these men, but the story of his linage speaks of a man that was after material gain. One Bible History Encyclopedia lists the meaning of his name as, "Faith in the power of things". As you look at the linage of Lemech it is quick to see that this was his emphasis on life. When you read of his decedents you see that it lists what they did in the material way of life. There are so many people that have chosen this destiny for themselves. They find no self worth unless they are reaching for the next business deal. They are pushing their kids to excel so they can be better than the Jones' and the Smith's down the street. The only problem that this type of focus only leads one to seek for those things that are right in their own sight. They measure life by how they see it coming out. There are a large majority of these people whose life on this Earth that seems happy, but they are miserable on the inside.
Enoch was a decedent of Seth (Child replaced after Abel's Death). The Bible says that Enoch walked with God. It also says in Hebrews 11:5 that he was translated and was no more. If a walk with God is what is necessary to be translated into a "Greater Destiny", then I want to walk with God. Enoch preached about things in his day that were sinful and grabbed the attention of God so much that God saw it fitting to take him before his time in a way that you and I may never see. He walked with God and was not. We all have a long ways to go in our walk with God, but it starts at the first step toward the prize laid out before us.
Lamech & Enoch both were 7th Generation from Adam and Eve. The number seven (7) represents the number of completion. This speaks to me of the completion of our destiny. Lamech's Destiny was to do what was right in his own sight. Enoch's Destiny was to do what was right in God's sight. So many people live their lives according to what is right in their own sight, but will one day be standing at the side of the "Good Ole Gospel Ship" banging on the door to get in. Sure they go to church, sure they give their tithes, sure they hold positions in the church, but they still do what is right in their own sight. They have chosen their destiny.
With every decision we make it will direct us to our destiny. I want to choose Jesus Christ and His Way. How about you this afternoon? What will your choice be? Will you choose to do what is right in your own sight or what is right in God's sight. Let me ask you another questions!!!
Heaven or Hell?
What do you desire? If it's heaven, then find a preacher and serve with him and ask him to lead you to repentance and then baptize you in Jesus Name for the remission of your sins. Then ask him and the church to believe with you to receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Then you will be on the track to a better destiny. But it's not over yet. There will be opportunities through God's Word that will allow you to choose another destiny as you walk with God, but you must be determined to Walk with God no matter what is offered up.
May God bless you as you reach for that "Greater Destiny".
Humbly Submitted,
Pastor Reynolds
